5 Quotes About Existence That Can Make You Doubt Yours

What do you think of your life? Do you feel like you have a purpose?

Many philosophers have thought about this topic for decades and with time, life has only gotten more complicated than we wanted it to be.

We’re trapped in a society that nobody wants to be part of.

It’s time to reset your mind with 5 quotes about life and existence that might make you doubt yours.

Or at least let you think again about the purpose of life.

Taking back control of your life

“May you live every day of your life.”

Jonathan Swift

When you’re living your life in the way you want it, what would it look like?

Are you currently living the life you want to live? Or haven’t you achieved what you wanted or what you thought would be your life when you were a little kid?

More and more people tend to be surviving their lives instead of living them.

It’s doing the necessary things to stay alive and being able to make ends meet by having a soul-draining job that makes nobody happy except the business owner.

Is that what you had expected of life?

“Is this the life I wanted?”

That’s the question we should ask ourselves and our friends a lot more to get that sense of happiness that we all desire but never get.

Think and behave like a free soul

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
J.R.R. Tolkien

Being able to think freely is the holy grail of liberty.

More and more we can’t say what we want. That’s creeping the sh*t out of me, to be honest.

What if we turn to a kind of Orwellian world? That’s no way I want to live.

As Tolkien states above, it’s our duty to escape when we’re imprisoned by any kind of enemy.

We don’t know anything

“Science is what you know. Philosophy is what you don’t know” — Bertrand Russell

Stop trying to explain everything.

Humans have tried for decades and centuries to explain everything that’s happening on earth — we call that science now.

But there’s a lot more that we don’t know.

Russel calls that philosophy. It’s interesting and terrifying at the same time how much stuff going on around the world we don’t understand. We’re calling a lot of things that we can comprehend supernatural, but what if it is natural? We just don’t get it, do we?

Let’s not pretend that we, small dots on a planet, are able to understand everything this world and universe have prepared for us.

That’s not possible.

Stop over-complicating the world

“Like all magnificent things, it’s very simple.”

Natalie Babbitt

Don’t we all agree on this?

Life’s been made too difficult for most of us. But we’re doing it ourselves — life isn’t that difficult to comprehend.

The core of my philosophy is that humans are the ones that cause complexity in our daily lives and that we are the only ones that can break through that.

Let’s start doing that today.

We shouldn’t just live to pay taxes, work ourselves into burnout and then get home to a relationship we don’t want — it’s your life so get yourself together and make something of it.

Quit the game called “life”, and start living it

“Sometimes I lie awake at night and I ask, “Is life a multiple choice test or is it a true or false test?” …Then a voice comes to me out of the dark and says, “We hate to tell you this but life is a thousand word essay.”

Charles M. Schulz

We’re playing a game.

All of our lives have been pre-determined by some greater force that sets us up for society. Certain rules lead to certain outcomes, it’s like a roleplaying game with multiple scenarios.

But the point is that life isn’t a game.

You need to write it yourself. Some days are good, some days are terrible but there’s no formula for a happy life and you have to find it out yourself.

Life has got so comfortable that we forget that we’re just animals trying to survive on a big rock in the universe.

What are we doing?
