Isaac Newton is an English scientist that’s famous for many reasons.
In 1679, he discovered the laws of gravity and that was an incredible achievement for science.
But he’s been asking a lot of questions as well. Questions that can make us think. On Wikipedia, he’s described as a “Natural Philosopher”.
Here are 5 quotes from Isaac Newton that will make you question the big things in life.
Everything in Life Is Simple, We Make It Complicated
“Nature is pleased with simplicity. And nature is no dummy”
We make everything so complicated. As Newton states in the quote above, nature is very simple at its core.
Everything just makes sense.
And what are we doing? We’re designing all kinds of difficult systems that are making our lives so complicated.
I often say: “Life isn’t hard, we make it hard.”
Are you really doing what you want? For example, if you’re working a 9–5 job, which is fine, are you having fun? Ask yourself the question.
If you don’t, you’ve got a problem.
How did you end up at your current job if you don’t like it? It often leaves me wondering how people end up doing something they hate.
We Don’t Know Most of It
“What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean.”
Humans want to explain everything.
We don’t like to accept things as they are, we always refer to science or something supernatural if we don’t understand it.
Isn’t that weird?
Because for many years, we haven’t known anything about everything. We didn’t know about space, history, about science. Back then, we asked for answers in religion.
We don’t have to know everything. Because we will not.
The Truth Is Always Around
“Plato is my friend, Aristotle is my friend, but my greatest friend is truth.”
Truth has many layers.
- Personal truth.
- Fundamental truth.
- Spiritual truth.
Life is so much better when the truth is around, and luckily it is. Because without it, everything is going to be miserable.
Have you ever told a lie and afterward, you felt horrendous? That makes sense because your inner self is confronting you with yourself.
Speak the truth. Even if that means that you’re letting some people down.
It’s much more important to hold on to your beliefs than short-term happiness.
We Can’t Exist Out of Nothing
“In the absence of any other proof, the thumb alone would convince me of God’s existence.”
This is an interesting one. Especially if you’re religious.
Atheists believe that the universe started to exist because of the Big Bang (Theory).
But does it makes sense that it all started from nothing?
First there was nothing, then there was this big explosion and suddenly everything started *creating*.
Does it make sense that something comes from nothing? That’s impossible right, there must have been something before the Big Bang. Something that we might not be able to comprehend at all.
Some kind of God.
Dare to Take Risks to Improve
“No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess.
You need to invest, to earn.
If you don’t take any risks in your life, career, or other places, you won’t grow as much as you want. It’s impossible to grow without effort.
Take the path with the most resistance.
Don’t abide by the rules. You need to do something different to stand out.
Make something of it.

Wrapping Things Up
Thinking about life is important.
We do that too little these days. We just accept our comfortable lives and don’t think deeply enough about certain topics: happiness, existence, and many more topics.
It’s all so superficial.
We need more in-depth questions that make us think.
Are you the one starting the discussion in your environment? Start asking philosophical questions at birthday parties instead of asking whether they’ve got a girlfriend or boyfriend already.
